BATHROOM

Don't use your toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket.

Check toilet for leaks. Put dye tablets or food coloring into the tank. If color appears in the bowl without flushing, there's a leak that should be repaired.

If your toilet was installed before 1992, reduce the amount of water used for each flush by inserting a displacement device in the tank.

For even greater savings, replace your toilet with an ultra-low flush or dual-flush model.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.

While shaving, fill the bottom of the sink with a few inches of water to rinse your razer.

Shorten your showers. Even a one or two minute reduction can save up to 700 gallons per month.

Install water saving shower heads or flow restrictors.

Turn off the shower to soap up, then turn it back on to rinse.

Capture water in a bucket while you wait for hot water to come down the pipes. Use it on house plants or to flush your toilet.

When running a bath, plug the tub before turning the water on, then adjust the temperature as the tub fills up.

Bathe your young children together.

Teach your children to turn off faucets tightly after each use.
